In a letter recently sent to Senator Chuck Schumer, President Trump responds to the criticism from Senate Democrats.
This letter comes in response to Senator Schumer’s letter expressing his concerns about shortages in medical equipment for his state. Schumer states in his letter, “While companies that volunteer to produce ventilators and personal protective equipment are to be commended and are appreciated, America cannot rely on a patchwork of uncoordinated voluntary efforts to combat the awful magnitude of this pandemic. It is long past the time for your administration to designate a senior military officer to fix this urgent problem.” (Fox News).
Trump responds in his letter that the Defense Production Act has been used consistently by his Administration and furthermore, companies are complying with requests for medical devices without even formal notice. The President also states that Rear Admiral John Polowcyzk is already in charge of gathering medical supplies, something that Schumer chose to ignore for his own political sound bites.
The letter has gained much attention online, circulating through various news sources and even prompting Schumer himself to tweet about the letter.
